What is WIC?

The Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Nutrition Program is a federal assistance program that provides healthy food and comprehensive support to families in our community. WIC helps improve the health of parents and children through nutrition education, breast and chest feeding support, healthy foods, and health screenings and referrals. The program aims to ensure that vulnerable populations (pregnant people, new parents, those who are breast and chest feeding, infants, and children under age 5) have access to proper nutrition during critical developmental periods.

How does WIC work in Washington state?

WIC serves any person caring for young children under 5 years, including pregnant people, new parents, those who are breast and chest feeding, dads, grandparents, and other caregivers. Eligibility is based on household size and income, with many working families and military families qualifying. If you or your household members receive Medicaid, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), or Basic Food, you may be eligible for WIC as well. Being on WIC does not make you a public charge and does not affect your immigration status; U.S. citizenship is not required to qualify.

Contact your local WIC clinic to see if WIC can help your family. Call the WIC Cascades Support Line at 1-800-841-1410 for help finding a WIC clinic near you.

How much do you get a month under WIC?

This depends on household size and income. The value of WIC monthly benefits is estimated to be $150 for a family of two per month for nutritious foods.
